Raleigh Delivery FAQ

Where is the Raleigh delivery?

The Raleigh delivery will be at 2906 Tryon Road, Raleigh, 27603.  It is close to the Tryon Road/Lake Wheeler Road intersection.  Click here to be directed to Google Maps for a map of the location.  You can then insert your own address and get directions.

The building is on Tryon Road, but you will need to turn down the street adjacent to the building...Trailwood Hills Drive.  The driveway to the back of the building is the first right off Trailwood Hills Drive.

When will the grain be delivered?

The grain will arrive anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks from the day the order is sent into Wheat Montana. Our order is a bulk order that must be a minimum of 5000#. Wheat Montana delivers these orders on semi trucks. I was told on my first order, which was over 10,000 #, that it was only 1/4 of the truck's capacity. Wheat Montana will not send out a truck until it is full. When they get the truck filled, Wheat Montana will call to schedule a delivery.  Usually is is about a week in advance.  I will let you know when that happens.

Please keep checking your email after the order goes in.   If you do not check your email, then you will not know about the delivery. Checking for updates is YOUR responsibility!

I’m going to be out of town for the delivery. Can you take my wheat home with you?

Unfortunately, I don’t have the space to keep a great deal of extra grain at my house.  You need to be prepared in case the grain comes in when you are out of town.

Three things:

1. Contact me with the dates of when you will be out of town.

2. Line up someone to pick up your grain in your absence - either another co-op member or a friend is fine.

3. Send ME the contact information for said person, so I know to contact them if the grain comes in while you are away.

Another option is to send out a message on the email loop and find out if there is someone near you that you may not be aware of, who can pick up your grain and hold it till you return. Not to sound snotty, but the least I need to do with it, the better.

Parking

If you are volunteering, please park along the side of Trailwood Hills Drive and walk up the driveway to the back of the brick building where the bay doors are located.

If you are coming to pick up only, the drive way to the building is the first right on Trailwood Hills Drive.  Turn in there...there will be an orange sign sticking out of the ground, and pull up to the end of the drive where you will see a volunteer standing with your invoice.  Stop there until given more instructions and stay in your car.

How long will I need to be at the delivery site?

If you have volunteered to help, the total time help is needed is about 2 hours. I will take any amount of time you can give, but obviously, the longer the better!

If you are one of our moms who has small children and can only come to pick-up your order, you should be in and out within 15 minutes.

How can I help on delivery day?

So glad you asked!

Volunteers:

Because this is a co-op, that means we all have to WORK together. Sometimes that means administration; on delivery day it means a lot of MUSCLE. The first hour is spent unloading the pallets into pickup trucks and carrying each item to it's spot by hand. These items weigh either 25 lbs, 45 lbs, or 50 lbs. Men are SO needed as this just isn’t a job that all moms can do. If your husband can come help, or an older son, that would be awesome. I realize not all husbands have flexible schedules. I understand. But those that do, we need you. Many times our children want to help. I have chosen age 12 as the younger limit. Since the majority of these items are 45 or 50 lbs, younger kids really do get in the way of the fast pace of unloading (think organized chaos). Also, kids have the tendency to DROP the bags onto the piles and they WILL burst (ask me how I know.) If you have an 11 year old that you feel is capable, email me and we’ll talk.

I can also use a few people who are like me and can’t lift, but are willing to count items, give directions to those unloading, check people in when they arrive and gather orders. Those will be needed after about 30 minutes of unloading.

Nonvolunteers:

Loading up those of you who cannot physically help will take place over a one-hour time span. When you arrive, cars will line up in the driveway and someone will give you instructions about moving forward.  Please stay in your cars while waiting in line.

***When you get home…please make note of the lot number on each item you purchased. If you have a bag that you are pouring into an existing bucket, put a label on the bucket with the current lot number in case a problem arises later in the year. We have had issues in the past in which many bags were involved and it would have helped Wheat Montana to know if there was a common “lot” of grain involved. Also, it is vital when you get home to transfer any grain that were purchased in bags into proper airtight storage. Wheat Montana is not responsible for infestations that occur because of grain that was stored improperly.

My grain did not arrive with the order. What do I do?

If the order did not have an error and they indeed neglected to send certain items, Wheat Montana will deliver it to your home whenever I give them your address. Occasionally they run out and in that case, you would get a refund. Unfortunately, it may be an error on my part. If that is the case, I'll refund you the money.

I think there is something wrong with my grain. It doesn’t look right. Ewww! I see bugs! What should I do?

First of all, don't throw it out. Many times I can get a refund or replacement from Wheat Montana if there is indeed something wrong with the grain. But Wheat Montana expects me to look into the matter and check the grain personally before I request that.

It would be very helpful if you could take a digital picture and email it to me as well. Also, note that LOT NUMBER and then call me and we will see what we can work out.

I’ve already run out of grain. Where can I get more before the next order

First of all, make sure you have joined the Yahoo email loop for the co-op.  Click here to join.  Then you can send a message through the email loop and ask the group as a whole if anyone has extra. Another possibility is to go The Breadbeckers website (see the Resources page) and check with their local co-op coordinators about the timing of their next order. You should be able to get a similar product to tide you over.

If you live in the Triangle, you might try The Grain Mill of Wake Forest in Wake Forest, NC.  They carry much of the same grains and also sell by the pound.  They order in bulk as well but the prices will likely be a bit higher than our wholesale ones.  They are a good resource though.
